2007/62/1 John Wood interviewed in his home in Haddington by Sarah Bromage on 24th April 2007

Mr Wood worked in the Haddington Courier as a compositor then a linotype operator. He subsequently became a proof reader with the Haddington Courier. He remembers going on annual trips with the Courier staff every summer.

0000 Born 12/3/1937 in Haddigton. Went to Knox Academy. Uncle worked in printing trade. Influence on his decision
0047 Before left school was a message boy for the Courier. Involved delivering letters round the premises.
0103 Left school 1953. Worked as message boy called 'printer's devil'. First pay 10 shillings after school. First pay full time was 27 shillings.
0200 Started work as apprentice compositor. Apprentuceship 6 years but if did National Service was 5 years.
0220 Went to Heriot Watt Evening School for classes on Typography and layout.
