David Finkelstein, co-director of SAPPHIRE, is a Research Professor of Media and Print Culture at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. A graduate of Columbia University and the University of Edinburgh, he specialises in cultural, narrative and print media studies, with specific interests in Victorian print culture and general book history. His publications include An Index to Blackwood's Magazine 1901-1980 (Scolar Press, 1995),The House of Blackwood: Author-Publisher Relations in the Victorian Era (Penn State Press, 2002) and the co-authored An Introduction to Book History (Routledge, 2005). He is co-editor of Nineteenth-Century Media and the Construction of Identities (Macmillan Press, 2000), Negotiating India in the Nineteenth-Century Media (Macmillan Press, 2000), The Book History Reader (Routledge, 2001; 2nd rev. ed. 2006), The Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland, Volume 4: Professionalism and Diversity, 1880-2000 (Edinburgh University Press, 2007) and works related to the SAPPHIRE project.
