In 2014 SAPPHIRE joined with Publishing Scotland to curate an exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of the founding of Publishing Scotland. The organization launched in 1974 as ‘The Scottish General Publishers Association’, later shortened to the SPA, and then undergoing a name change in 2007 to Publishing Scotland. It has been at the forefront of representing Scottish publishing interests internationally. To mark its founding, it was felt an exhibition charting some of the publishers and the books that have made up its history would be a valuable exercise. Masters students on the Publishing programme at Edinburgh Napier University produced a 48-page brochure to accompany the exhibition.
The exhibition featured at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh between May and June 2014. Over the coming year it will also feature in the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the Literary Dundee festival and the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, as well as other Scottish venues.
