This project has undertaken to record a visual archive of significant sites and workplaces relating to Scottish print culture, including printing, publishing and bookselling sites and workplaces. It will aim to record the diverse nature of the industry, from small company, and family based firm, serving a local market, to large company producing work for a national and international market. It will record aspects from craft production and specialised work practices and techniques to mass production methods and techniques.
Visits are being made to a range of firms in Central Scotland, with emphasis based on Edinburgh and Glasgow, and their hinterlands. The photographs taken will aim to present exteriors and interiors of relevant buildings, company logos, work groups, work processes and other aspects of print culture activity.
